The competition includes the five full members of the Asian Cricket Council: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Nepal, who qualified by winning the 2023 ACC Men's Premier Cup, has now joined them. The competition will be contested in a "hybrid format" for the first time, with the games being organized in two nations. Except for India, which declined to visit Pakistan because to opposition from the Indian Government, all teams will play at least a few games there.[10][11][12]The dates and format of the event were confirmed when the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) released the pathway structure and calendar for 2023 and 2024 in January 2023[13][14].[15] The competition was originally slated to take place in 2021, however it was moved to 2023.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in June 2020 that they would be open to letting Sri Lanka host the 2020 Asia Cup[17] after meeting with the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), as India would not be willing to visit Pakistan.[18] Following the discussion, the ACC released a press release noting that "possible venue options for the Asia Cup 2020 were discussed and it was decided to take the final decision in due course" in light of the impact and repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic.[19] The ACC issued a formal notification of the postponement in July 2020.[20] The 2021 edition of the 2020 event will now take place in Sri Lanka in June.[21]

Today, the 15-player Team India roster was revealed.
Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul, India's middle-order batsmen, may not be available for the forthcoming Asia Cup, which is set to begin on August 30. Additionally, it has been stated that Shreyas Iyer's World Cup participation is now doubtful.
There will be 13 overall matches in the tournament. Pakistan, India, and Nepal make up Group A, while Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka make up Group B. The match between India and Pakistan, which will take place on September 2 in Kandy, is one of the most eagerly anticipated games.
